Fantastic Adventures of Unico (the unicorn) was a widely acknowledged misfire by director Osamu Tezuka, the well-known creator of legendary anime like Astro Boy, Black Jack, and Kimba the White Lion. Beginning in 2003, Tezuka Productions has begun releasing direct-to-video sequels of this movie, starting with Fantastic Adventures of Unico: Revived (2003), Phantom of the Unicorns (2004), and A Journey to the Stars (2006).
