Herbert von Karajan: Verdi: Requiem

Giuseppe Verdi wrote his 'Requiem' based on the traditional Catholic Mass for the Dead in 1874. 5 years later, Arturo Toscanini directed the first performance in Milan. Verdi's work was enthusiastically received by the audience and critics, and has been considered one of his greatest compositions ever since.
