Juke Box Racket (1939) is a low-budget cult musical comedy directed by Charles Lamont, starring Lona Andre, Donald O’Connor, Patricia Morison, Barry Fitzgerald, and Gale Storm. It was also the film debut of music legend Gene Krupa, playing himself as the leader of the Gene Krupa Orchestra. Set in New York City, the story follows Red Dolan (Lona Andre), a nightclub owner whose hobby is collecting antique music boxes. She becomes involved in a racket run by a group of criminals who are using jukeboxes to launder money, and eventually hires popular singer Jerry Dolan (Donald O’Connor) to help her take them down. Juke Box Racket is a blend of crime and romance, featuring lively musical performances from Gene Krupa and his orchestra, as well as songs and witty dialogue from the cast.
