Mararía

This film by Antonio José Betancor is a dramatic story set against the backdrop of the volcanic beauty of Lanzarote. Carmelo Gómez plays the role of Fermín, a Basque doctor who remains silent when he meets Mararía (Goya Toledo), a beauty from Lanzarote. Then a handsome Englishman Beltrahn (Iain Glen) arrives and wins Mararía's love, triggering Fermín's uncontrollable wrath. The audience watches as Fermín's jealousy drives him to ignite a conflict that eventually brings misfortune on the lovers. This chain of events not only destroys Fermín's love life but consumes him as he becomes a different person, capable of killing for love.
