Monte Criollo

Monte Criollo is a classic melodrama of love, betrayal, and greed set in Buenos Aires. The film follows Lucy, Elena Lucena, a mysterious woman with a dubious past who manipulates Arg{ü}ello and Carlos to set up an illegal gambling hall in a cabaret that is legally run. Arg{ü}ello, a wealthy businessman, is attracted to Lucy but she rejects him, drawn to Carlos, a charismatic singer. Arg{ü}ello's obsession with Lucy leads him to cheat in a game of cards against Carlos, resulting in the latter's financial ruin. However, in a climactic showdown, the men fight, and Arg{ü}ello is stabbed but refuses to identify his attacker, preserving his dignity as a professional gambler.
